Start with four readings and the bill dates

Copy the previous and current electricity readings and the previous and current water readings from the same SP bill. Their differences are the billed kWh and cubic metres. When the bill already states usage, enter zero as the previous value and billed usage as the current value.

Check whether each reading is actual or estimated. The regulated electricity default shown in the tool is the Q3 2026 household rate before GST; a retailer plan can use different contract terms, so replace the rate when the account is not on that schedule.

Use electrical input, not cooling capacity

For an air-conditioner, cooling capacity in BTU/h or kW of cooling is not the same as electrical input power. Match the exact model and use its electrical input or applicable energy-label information. For a device that cycles, a measured average or a clearly labelled operating factor is more useful than assuming nameplate power for every hour.

Singapore's Mandatory Energy Labelling Scheme helps compare covered product models under stated test methods. A label is a comparison basis; room heat, thermostat, maintenance, occupancy and actual runtime can still change household use.

• Match the complete model number.
• Record whether the value is W, kW or kWh/year.
• Use the same billing period for hours, days and rates.

Apply electricity, water and GST in order

Multiply electricity use by the rate before GST. Domestic potable water uses a total pre-GST price for the first 40 cubic metres and a higher total component price above 40 cubic metres. The calculator allocates only the water above the threshold to the higher band.

Add any known taxable utility lines, calculate GST, then subtract entered credits or rebates. This order keeps taxes and credits visible instead of hiding everything inside one all-in rate.

Reconcile the remaining SP bill lines

The combined estimate does not silently include gas, refuse, retailer-specific fees, U-Save rebates, deposits, arrears or account adjustments. Compare those lines separately against the official bill guide and do not interpret the calculator total as a payment demand.

The HDB example buttons use dated SP comparison values only as a convenient reference. They are not a forecast for a particular home; occupancy, cooling, water habits and billing dates can move the actual result materially.
