Home calculation glossary

Simple definitions for electricity, battery, construction and land-measurement terms used in GharGanit calculators.

01

Watt, kW and kWh

A watt is the rate at which an appliance uses power. A kilowatt is 1,000 watts. A kilowatt-hour, kWh, is energy used over time and is commonly called one electricity unit.

02

VA, Ah and efficiency

VA is an apparent-power rating often used for inverters. Ah is battery charge capacity at a stated voltage. Efficiency is the share delivered after losses, not a guarantee of runtime.

03

Area, volume and wastage

Area measures a flat surface. Volume includes thickness. Wastage is an editable allowance for cuts, breakage and handling, not a fixed rule.

04

Standard and regional land units

Square feet, square metres and acres have fixed relationships. Bigha and Katha are regional names that can need a verified location-specific factor.
