Why AC tonnage is not electrical wattage
Understand why cooling tonnage cannot be entered as electrical power and where to find the model input needed for an AC cost estimate.
Tonnage describes cooling capacity
A 1-ton or 1.5-ton description tells you about cooling capacity. It does not state the electricity drawn by the specific model.
Use the model’s electrical evidence
Look for rated input watts, annual energy consumption or another electrical value on the model label, BEE label or manufacturer product sheet. Do not convert tonnage directly to electrical watts.
Keep operating conditions separate
Room size, heat, weather, thermostat setting and compressor cycling change average use after you identify the model input.
